Looney Liberal of the Week: Harry Reid

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This week's award goes to Harry Reid for his statement that making English the official language of the United States is racist. Harry is also the first Looney Lib to win the "LLoW Award" twice! He last won it in November, 2005. I guess that makes him loonier than most.

Using Reid's standard, there are about 150 countries that would have to be considered racist, since they have an official language. You can go HERE for a list of official languages. If you want to hear some thoughts from others about Reid's statement, go HERE and scroll down a bit to read the comments. Those guys say it better than I ever could. But Reid is not as stupid as he sounds... he's pandering to the Hispanic vote, or to a potential Hispanic vote. He just sounds stupid.

isn't it great that in a time when

1) we have sky high gas prices
2) American troops are dying on a consistent and daily basis in Iraq
3) the country has the biggest federal deficit in history
4) the govt has yet to apprehend the mastermind of the most heinous crime perpetrated against Americans
5) average wages can't even keep up with inflation
6) the rest of the world hates this country

the Republicans in the Senate propose a bill to make English the official language of the nation??

Did I miss something or were there signs that another language was gonna replace English as the primary medium of communication for Americans?

Oh wait, this is prob another one of those gay marriage type hoaxes where Republicans appeal to uneducated hicks by spinning some ridiculous theory that anyone with a half decent IQ will think that it is a joke??

by the way, it is a racist measure, not to mention a flat out asinine one. Harry Reid was specifically referring to the language in the bill that declares that no one has the right to demand that government services be provided in any language other than English.

if this bill is passed, international airports in the US cannot have announcements in any other language other than English. Many airports now already have departure announcements in Mandarin and Japanese for obvious practical reasons.

hawkeye, again you have proved your Republican credentials by deliberately mis-portraying the issue.

WCL,
Oh REALLY? First of all, I would love to see where the bill says that all government services must be provided in English. I must admit, I hadn't heard that. Do you have the text of the bill?

Second, last I checked, airports are not government-owned. So, even if all government services must be provided in English, that has no bearing on airports.

And as for my Republican credentials?... thanks for affirming them! I'm a PROUD Republican... and a PROUD American. Thank you.

My goodness! West Coast Liberal really put some English on that post. My head is still spinning after reading that scathing indictment of the Democrats...Yes, I said Democrats. Why?

Because Gas prices are higher because of Democrats (no new refineries, a cornucopia of blends, NIMBY oil drilling restrictions, ad mauseum)

Americans should be proud of the work our soldiers are doing in Iraq. You know we could have done it alot safer for our troops by making it into a big parking lot but since Democrats wail and gnash their teeth when our enemies are made to wear women's panties on their heads, I guess a true shock and awe campaign was out of the question, hmmm?

I know those Democrats in Congress have NOTHING to do with rising deficits, right?

We ain't got Bin Laden and if we listened to Democrats we wouldn't have the 75% of his fellow Al Quaeda buddies (dead or captured).

Average wages are easily keeping up with inflation. Americans are even saving more than ever before. What is it with libs, they'd cry if they were hung with a new rope!

The rest of the world can and will do whatever it wants and the US can have no effect on that. Why is it so important for Dems to worry about what Europe thinks about us? They even think it's alright to bring international legal precedent into US court decisions.

You know what the point of this article was? It was to show the political pandering of the muy especial Harry Reid. Hawkeye didn't say anything about wanting the legislation to pass, or even that he favored English as the official naguage of the country (though he may). The point is to say that this legislation is racist, is nothing but a ploy to garner latin American votes. Pretty simple.

I would like to change the title to "Looney OLD Liberal Of the Week" Then it would be "LOLOW" . I think this little mantra sums up nicely the things Liberals say to each other when there are no microphones present.
It also reminds me of the famous party game played by Dims "How LOLOW can you go?"

OLA,
My grandparents on my father's side, and my great-grandparents on my mother's side, came to this country from Poland, and I must admit that their English was never very good. As a child, I had a difficult time understanding why I could barely communicate with them. Let's face it... it's not easy to learn a new language.

My parents grew up speaking both English and Polish. I speak only English. It's sad in a way that I didn't learn Polish, but it wasn't really necessary.

As you might imagine, those first generation immigrants in my family that never really learned English had a hard time assimilating, and never really prospered. They were the subject of ridicule and targeted by bigots because they were "different". Their homes were pelted with eggs and produce and God-knows what else (I never heard the complete story.)

Their children though, did GREAT! My father and his three brothers all served in WWII, and all came home alive. They were all heroes in their own right, and all of them paid the price of citizenship. Two served in North Africa, Italy and Southern France. One of those two lost a kidney to shrapnel at the Battle of Monte Cassino. Oddly enough, the Battle of Montey Cassino is remembered because Polish troops actually won the battle. See HERE. My uncle remembered meeting with the Polish troops and conversing with them (in Polish of course). He was fluent in Polish, English, French, Italian and German.

One served on the submarine USS Balao which sunk 6 Japanese ships with an estimated 31,920 tons. For more info see HERE.

And one served in the US Army Air Force as a radio operator in India and Burma. He supported the pilots flying relief missions "over the hump" (the Himalayan mountains) into China, and then he travelled up the Burma Road on clean-up missions removing the last of the Japanese hold-outs.

Sorry to be so long-winded, but I suddenly got nostalgic.

5) average wages can't even keep up with inflation
6) the rest of the world hates this country

the Republicans in the Senate propose a bill to make English the official language of the nation??

Let's look at your claims "Looney limpwrist of this blog",

(1) as was said, gas prices are a result of "Looney Libs/tree huggers", (see Al Gore/Chicken Little), who for decades have blocked new drilling/new refineries.

(2) Maybe less Americans would be dying without aid and comfort by the lib media, and your filthy congress persons who give the enemy info about our troops and intel? (see Murtha, Durbin, etc)

(3) Deficit's have, and always will grow with YOUR party in power! Although I agree, GWB is a big spender, he is the first Republican I have seen do this, and the FACT that if he was a Dimocrat, you and your ilk would NOT even refer to this!

(4) We wouild not even be debating bin Laden, (and would not have 3000 innocents dead on 9/11/01), if Clinton had taken him when he was offered on a "silver platter".

(5) blah blah, more people are working than when "Bill the Zipper" was pResident. Economy is sooooooo bad, I guess that is why all the Mexicans are coming here.

(6) If you had even said MOST, I might have ignored this one. We had the biggest alliance helping us in Iraq. What about those Countries? We are hated, the amazing thing is how much we are hated from WITHIN, by people like you and your ilk! If America is so bad, stop living here, taking money from people whom will appreciate it. Go to ANY of these other Countries that hate us. Most of the ones that hate us have been found to have made deals with Saddam, and are now making deals with Iran. Are these the countries we should cowtow to?

BTW, Left coast dork, is Reid racist? I understand he ONLY speaks and writes English. How fluent are you in other languages?

I would expect if you speak another language, it is probably phrench.

Hawkeye,I can't speak for others ,but I love to here those stories of the Heroes who served this country. You are rightfully proud of them. None of the "Me " generation ,then ,it was more the "WE" generation. And those safely at home were glad to do without to help the war effort.

We are at war ,now ,and though some won't admit it, it,too is a World War.
1. Gas should be $10 a gallon or rationed.
2. Compared to car accidents ,very few troops are being killed in Irawq and Afganistan.Troops are killed nearly every day ,in peace time.
3. In adjusted dollars ,I imagine we were in a lot deeper during WWll than now.
4. Many think bin laden is dead,if he is not, he is certainly the biggest coward who ever lived.
5. WC has got me on this one. During WWll folks made money, there just wasn't anything to spend it on. We have the most abundent style of living the world has ever known,no matter how deep in dept some have to go to maintain it.
6. If the rest of the world hates us ,why do they all want to come here to live, even if they have to risk their lives and break the law?

I didn't see that, but it wouldn't surprise me. I have some serious doubts about GWB when it comes to this border thing. Bush seems to be strong on offense, but weak on defense.

Harry Reid is a barking moonbat just like westcoastliberal.

1) we have sky high gas prices
[Isn't that what the environmentalist whackos on your side of the aisle want? That way Americans would use less gas and the environment will be saved from the pollutants from the eeeevvviil internal combustion engine?]
2) American troops are dying on a consistent and daily basis in Iraq [and they are dying for a noble and just cause just like they died in the Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII. You're not going to actually claim that the more American soldiers die for a cause the more ignoble it becomes, now are you? 618,000 Americans died in the Civil War and over 400,000 died in World War II - so I guess that makes them evil, immoral, illegal and ignoble wars, too, eh?]
3) the country has the biggest federal deficit in history [Yeah, the deficit is way too high but Clinton also left this country with a $5.1 Trillion deficit. So what's your point?].
4) the govt has yet to apprehend the mastermind of the most heinous crime perpetrated against Americans [And Clinton had an opportunity to nip this all in the bud when bin Laden was offered to him no less than three times during his administration. Clinton merely kicked the can down the road because he always avoided hard choices...except for that illegal and immoral war he conducted in the Balkans without either a UN Resolution or a Joint Congressional Resolution. I don't remember liberals complaining about that, in fact they hailed him as a humanitarian hero. Hypocrites.]
5) average wages can't even keep up with inflation [So move to another country and economy. But why do liberals want illegal Mexican immigrants come to this country if our economy is so pathetic and we're such an eeeeevviiill empire, eh? The last time I checked more people are coming to America than getting out of America. Why is that?]
6) the rest of the world hates this country [It's called jealousy and envy. It's also called, THEY OWE US. Europe hates America because we pulled their bacon out of the fire during two World Wars when they couldn't do themselves. The damn EU and United Nations can't even face down Iran. And the African Union and the EU have been impotent in dealing with the Sudan. Now both of these issues are being laid at our doorsteps when they exist in Europe's own backyard. Of course the world hates us, so what. Truly good people are typically despised by the world.]

Great rebuttals all!

BTW, good "English" joke!

Close. "Lo siento" literally translates as "I feel it", but in idiomatic Español it means "I'm sorry". The rest is correct...

One last comment on Reid's comment. Is Reid a "racist" because he doesn't speak his press conferences in ALL other languages that his constituents may speak?

I am sure there are Mexicans, and maybe French, German, etc, that are in his home state that don't know what he is saying.

Actually, speaking English myself, I am not sure what he is saying half the time!

Perhaps he doesn't care that "They" may not understand English?
