Musical Interlude

DOWNTOWN, NJ -- Our next song is dedicated to Jay Bennish, Ward Churchill and all the other arrogant, liberal teachers who abuse the sacred trust of their position by turning their classrooms into political platforms...

Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)

by Pink Floyd

We don't need no "education"
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
HEY!... TEACHERS!... Leave them kids alone!

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

We don't need no "education"
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
HEY!... TEACHERS!... Leave them kids alone!

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

Quite appropriate for their ilk.

May I toss in one of my favs, dedicated to the religious fundies?

"God's Song" by Randy Newman

Cain slew Abel, Seth knew not why
For if the children of Israel were to multiply
Why must any of the children die?
So he asked the Lord
And the Lord said:

Man means nothing, he means less to me
Than the lowliest cactus flower
Or the humblest Yucca tree
He chases round this desert
'Cause he thinks that's where I'll be
That's why I love mankind

I recoil in horror fro the foulness of thee
From the squalor and the filth and the misery
How we laugh up here in heaven at the prayers you offer me
That's why I love mankind

The Christians and the Jews were having a jamboree
The Buddhists and the Hindus joined on satellite TV
They picked their four greatest priests
And they began to speak
They said, "Lord, a plague is on the world
Lord, no man is free
The temples that we built to you
Have tumbled into the sea
Lord, if you won't take care of us
Won't you please, please let us be?"
And the Lord said
And the Lord said

I burn down your cities-how blind you must be
I take from you your children and you say how blessed are we
You all must be crazy to put your faith in me
That's why I love mankind
You really need me
That's why I love mankind

Cranky,
Never heard of it, but it sounds like another guy who wants everybody to live forever. God tried that once and it didn't work... He created "Lucifer" in shining, eternal perfection. "Lucifer" means "Day Star, or Morning Star, or Son of the Dawn". He was an eternal spirit, and perfect in every way, until he started thinking he was better than the Creator. His sin of pride caused him to rebel, and he took a third of the angels with him. His name was changed to "Satan", which means "The Adversary". Satan has been trying to turn the creation against the Creator ever since.

God gave Adam and Eve a pretty nice place to live too... the Garden of Eden. Like Satan, Adam chose to rebel. He disobeyed God's one and only commandment. The world has been screwed up ever since. Cain, Adam's firstborn son became the first murderer.

Romans 8:18-23 says...
"18 I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God; 20 for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning in travail together until now; 23 and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies."

You never heard of Randy Newman, or just the song?

Cranky,
Neither as far as I know.

Yikes! You're only 5 years older than me. Amazing you never heard any of his stuff.

Newman's been around since the late 60's, and doing Disney soundtracks more recently. Did the music for "Toy Story", "Monsters, Inc". and "A Bugs Life".

Oh, by the way, he's not one of those guys "who wants everybody to live forever". He's an atheist.

Here's one I know you'll love, though it's better along with the jaunty music:

Political Science by Randy Newman

No one likes us-I don't know why
We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try
But all around, even our old friends put us down
Let's drop the big one and see what happens

We give them money-but are they grateful?
No, they're spiteful and they're hateful
They don't respect us-so let's surprise them
We'll drop the big one and pulverize them

Asia's crowded and Europe's too old
Africa is far too hot
And Canada's too cold
And South America stole our name
Let's drop the big one
There'll be no one left to blame us

We'll save Australia
Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo
We'll build an All American amusement park there
They got surfin', too

Boom goes London and boom Paris
More room for you and more room for me
And every city the whole world round
Will just be another American town
Oh, how peaceful it will be
We'll set everybody free
You'll wear a Japanese kimono
And there'll be Italian shoes for me

They all hate us anyhow
So let's drop the big one now
Let's drop the big one now
