Katrina - Diverting Attention From 9/11?
September 8, 2005 -- With all of the attention being paid to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, are we forgetting the upcoming anniversary of 9/11?
A year ago at this time, the Department of Homeland Security was raising the threat level in anticipation of a potential terrorist attack on the anniversary of September 11, 2001. With all of the commotion surrounding the Gulfcoast disaster, it is easy to become complacent about the ongoing terrorist threat. Al-Qaeda would love to strike America again, and they would love to do it on a memorable date. What better date than 9/11?
Not only that, but Al-Qaeda might interpret America's preoccupation with Katrina relief as a moment of weakness... the perfect time to strike. Combine that with the recent increased level of "chatter" observed by our intelligence communities (higher in fact than at any time since just before 9/11), and you have to ask yourself why aren't we going on alert? You also have to ask yourself, why are we seeing such vitriolic partisan politics being played out in Washington at a time when our country so desperately needs unity, healing and compassion?
We are angered and insulted when we hear that businesses have used the pain and suffering caused by Katrina to gouge customers. We are saddened and dismayed when we hear of those who would use the misfortune of others for their own economic advantage. Why are we then not equally angered, insulted and dismayed by those who would use the suffering caused by Katrina for their own political advantage?
To those in Washington and elsewhere who would use this disaster and the suffering of Americans for political purposes I say, "Shame on you! A curse be on you and your house for your iniquity and your treachery!"

Thank you for verbalizing what I have been thinking. I think we all should all be a little more viligant.
You have a great blog........
Self...why? OK, there, I asked...
kajun is correct. Combine that with the "everyone is equal" dumbing down makes a recipe for disaster. My boys are being raised to be men and know failure is to be used to learn to achieve success.
Not that there is anything wrong with that..........

Thanks for the kind words, but you don't have to overdo the 'great blog' stuff. I'm not THAT MUCH of a glutton for praise (OK, so maybe I am, but I don't want to get a big head).
P.S.-- How much did I owe you again?
Kajun,
Very thoughtful comments, but your best line was...
feminized "men" in a boat with no drainplug, as recently witnessed on TV during a disaster response
Hahahaha! Good one.
Camo,
Ba-da-Boom!!

Way to go... Raise those boys to be manly men! We don't need any more "girly-men" around here.
(You tell 'em Ahhnold)
Well, fellas, there is no doubt in my mind that our response to Katrina and the vulnerabilities to a major port and energy sources it exposes is being very carefully watched by our enemies in order to evaluate our national weaknesses.
The whiners and naysayers are girly men and girly-men girls who want manly men in times of threat or danger. At the same time, they want to rebel against that firm "Daddy" figure. They must feel that they are covered on all fronts with this contradictory attitude.
Kajun: Check out "Discover the Network" at www.frontpagemag.com. These clowns have infiltrated our media, our schools, and our government.
You can send the check in any amount to the charity of your choice. I am a hearing dars some help needed down Sowt.
Apparently "Bubba" Clinton appeared on BET's version of the telethon last night. He was asked if his responce would have been better than Bush's.
Not an exact quote but, he said something like, "--I don't want to critize Bush,-------BUT, we always believed faster was better than slower!"
I guess he wasn't including turning over requested documents during his impeachment, or his RUSH to tell the truth to the American people.
Of course there are a LOT more things the "Criminal Clinton's" were real fast doing during the "Awful Eight" years they ruled, but I am tired right now and don't have time for a novel.
They were pretty fast elimanating small problems, i.e. Vince Foster, Ron Brown, etc though!
RAM,
You got that right... To find out some of the other "small problems" Clinton was quick to deal with, you can go HERE.
Thanks for the link Hawkeye. I have seen it before, but had misplaced the link.
Off topic but, ABC is really promoting their new show Commander in Chief. Only a fool wouldn't know the whole premise is to "condition" us for Hillary's run.
Too bad it may come true, only as an African-American woman who is a Republican! Too bad for the Dims that is. ;-)
